What gets measured
- Deadzone — the fraction of travel either side of centre that reports nothing.
- Breakout force — the force needed to move the unit off centre, in gram-force.
- Travel — usable deflection, measured at the gimbal rather than quoted.
- Recentre error — how far from zero the unit settles after a full deflection.
Throttles, panels and mounts are measured on the terms that matter for them: detent depth, lever friction, slop at idle, flex under load.
What a missing figure means
It means we have not measured it. A unit can be indexed and priced before it reaches the bench, and when that is the case its readout is blank and labelled rather than filled in from a spec sheet.
What the score is
The bench score is a judgement, not an average of the numbers above. It answers one question: how well does this unit do the job it is for, at the price the ring is asking? That is why a twelve-year-old stick with a wide deadzone can outscore a precise one that costs six times as much.
